Stop Loss

What is a stop loss?

A stop loss is an automatic sell instruction that helps investors limit a loss if a share falls in value. You set it up yourself with the broker you trade through. The share is sold automatically if its price falls to a level you have chosen. If you bought at 100 and set a stop loss at 10 per cent, the share is sold if the price falls to 90.
