Solar stocks are the companies that make panels, inverters and mounting systems, and the ones that install and finance solar power. The sector has grown enormously and been brutal to own: falling equipment prices are good for the world and hard on the margin of whoever makes the equipment. Below, our model ranks every US-listed solar stock by score and momentum, updated after each close.

Panel makers such as First Solar, JinkoSolar and Canadian Solar compete largely on cost per watt. Inverter and component companies like Enphase, Nextpower and Shoals sell the electronics and hardware around the panel, often at better margins. Installers and financiers such as Sunrun earn on the system and the contract rather than the equipment — a business closer to lending than to manufacturing.
Falling panel prices. Good for demand, bad for the makers. Oversupply has repeatedly turned a growing market into a shrinking margin.
Interest rates. Solar is paid for up front and earns back over years, so the cost of financing decides whether a project happens at all. Rates matter more here than in most manufacturing.
Subsidies and tariffs. Political support can create a market and remove it again, and trade rules decide who is allowed to sell where.
Grid connection. Projects wait years for connection in several markets — a bottleneck no company can solve on its own.
Because more capacity than demand pushes panel prices down. Volume rises while the price per unit falls faster, so revenue and margin can shrink in a growing market. It is the sector's defining pattern.
Often the margins are better, because the electronics are harder to commoditise. But they sell into the same installations, so a slowdown in projects hits both.
Solar is a subset. The green theme also holds wind, storage and power producers, so several companies appear in both. If you want only the solar exposure, this is the narrower list.
