P/E Ratio

What is the P/E ratio?

P/E stands for price/earnings and is used to price companies, to get a sense of whether a share is expensive or cheap. The P/E tells you how much you are paying for one unit of after-tax profit if you buy the share. The higher the P/E, the more expensive the share. Growth companies typically carry a high P/E.
